Of all the wildflowers planted, we find it heartwarming that she chose the sunflowers to grow closest to her trunk. Each member of our family hung a wind chime in her tree’s branches that meant something special to us. Niki hung dolphins. Joie hung up the sun and moon. Aunt Mary hung some kitty cats, and Dad & I hung lighthouses. The night of the dedication, our friends and family gathered with us and circled her tree in candlelight. With Niki and Joie by my side, we attempted as best as we could to compose ourselves, and share with our circle of friends some of the beautiful poems and songs that we had received from people all over the world as tributes to Krissy. At one point as I was reading a letter, much to our amazement, a large shooting star streaked across the sky. The letter I was reading at that time had stickers of shooting stars stuck all over it! We truly felt it was Krissy’s way of letting us know she was with us. Joie said, “that way, both of my sisters can be there.” The sunflowers were in full bloom then. It was as if they were her bridesmaids. The wind chimes rang constantly, like church bells ringing, and a little yellow butterfly was ever-present. The park rangers say Krissy’s tree is one of the most visited sites in the park. The marker at the base of her tree reads: “Through nature she will continue to blossom and grow, and the beauty of her spirit will live on. The tree will produce seed pods and, in future years, the seeds will be planted and her wish to have a family of her own will someday also come true...with a little help from Mother Nature”. Giatiano Navarro, Fendi, Blue Marine, and two others. So, there she was! Walking with Naomi, Christy, Claudia and Niki—quite a bit of a “jump start!” When she got back from Milan, she did some more shoots with Niki for Vogue, Elle, Mademoiselle, Glamour, and Cover Girl. Early wake-up calls, lots of traveling and schlepping around. Being pinned and tucked, powdered and blushed, teased and sprayed.... She did have her eye on that full-sized pickup truck.... At eleven, Krissy did her first shoot with sister Niki for SEVENTEEN magazine. The entire crew thought she was adorable. Being sisters, the magazine knew it would make a cute and interesting story. Shortly thereafter, she signed with a local agency, Irene Marie-Miami. Niki was booked to do the runway shows for the Fall collections and the whole family went along. Niki wound up dragging Krissy along to her fittings to keep her company. After about an hour, calls started coming in for Niki’s agent. He told us, “They want to fit Krissy, too! They all wore the same size and borrowed each other’s clothes (mostly Niki’s). They had a mutual circle of friends and they went everywhere together. I think that’s what turned them into catalog shoppers. They were happy, busy and loved each other. It seemed one might be able to mistake their identity apart, but when they were together it was virtually impossible to avoid recognition. A handful of Krissy’s favorite things: kids, animals, her niece Blake, her twin nephews Jake & Hunter, her BIG Chevy truck, the phone, country music, fast food, Pepsi, chewing gum and, of course, MTV. Her favorite actress was Demi Moore and Brad Pitt took honors as her favorite actor. Up until the time of her death on July 2, 1995, she lived in South Florida with her family, consisting of Mom (Barbara), Dad (Ken) and sisters Joelle and Nicole. Growing up, she loved skating at the local rink, and was a mascot and cheerleader for the North Dade Optimist Club. When Krissy first began attracting attention from the public, it was largely because she was Niki Taylor’s younger sister. However, three years after her first photo shoot, she had emerged from her sister’s shadow. She walked the Milan runways which is an amazing feat for a very young “newcomer”! After that, Krissy began doing solo work. Krissy was working up an impressive résumé having gained clients of major magazines: Seventeen, Elle, Italian Glamour, YM, Cosmopolitan and Vogue. She had over 13 covers to her credit. Fox TV and Disney Films had requested her to read for upcoming feature films. But when this cover of Ocean Drive came out, I remember just staring at it for what felt like half-an-hour, just mesmerized by its beauty. I have never since been as fully satisfied with an image I have taken. Of course, it’s really all about Krissy and how she had really matured and come into her own. There are a couple of great stories about this photo shoot. It was really déjà vu for me and Niki, as Barry was the first photographer to shoot Niki for Seventeen back in 1989, when Niki was 14 years old. Now Krissy was 14, and history seemed to be repeating itself. We passed by a few young girls, perhaps 12 years old, who stole glances at Krissy and then disappeared. They’ve always been sooo supportive. My mom is my manager. She basically watches out for me. Usually my mom or my dad will take me to a shoot and sometimes they stay and sometimes they leave. It depends on the job. I’m comfortable either way. Do your friends treat you differently now your career has taken off? Well, I didn’t really start getting bigger until I went to high school, and that was about 9th grade. But I lost a lot of my friends anyway, because we went to different schools. It was harder to make new friends—I didn’t know if they were making friends with me because of one thing or the other. But now I have some really good friends who are really there when I need them. Have you had to be more careful about taking care of yourself? No, I’m really lucky. I don’t know if it will be my main career, but I could change my mind later on. Have you been putting the money you make away, or have you indulged yourself at all? I put most of it away, but two days ago I bought a Toyota Celica. Dad, me and Scott did some wheeling and dealing and I bought it. I think I was about 11.  Were you nervous? I was very nervous. No. I pretty much just wash my face with a gentle face wash and water. That’s it. I don’t use a moisturizer, but I think there’s one in the cleanser. Tell me about your boyfriend and how you met? It was in algebra class. They were calling roll one day and my friend had mentioned his name before school started, and when they called his name, I turned around to see who he was. I fell in love right then. He didn’t ask me out until three or four months after that. Of course, in school it immediately goes around if you like somebody. But he didn’t know who I was, which was great, and we started talking on the phone and became really good friends at first. Be careful, because not everyone is real nice, and you’re going to have to work really hard. It’s not just about wearing great clothes. You should know what you’re in for in terms of waking up really early and all the travelling. People recognize me here in Florida. It’s really hard to go shopping in the mall with my boyfriend because people look at me. Then again, maybe it’s because I’m six feet tall!
